The first few days and weeks after a new baby is born can be such a blur. We are thrown into a new world of sleeplessness, exhaustion, overwhelming love, and a type of calm chaos that feels both exciting and terrifying all at once. I always feel so honoured and privileged to be invited into this world to photograph a family with their new baby.

As I looked back over these photos from Baby L’s session, trying to decide which ones to choose for this post, and I just was overwhelmed with the simplicity and beauty of this couple’s story.  Isn’t it incredible that we can create such tiny, amazing creatures together? That we can survive and thrive during those first jarring weeks? That our hearts can expand to sizes we never even considered when we have a baby?

Most of the photos I’ve included here are in black & white, although I sent colour options to the family as well.  But there is just something so timeless and intimate about the black & white images. They are quickly becoming my favourites in all sessions. I hope you enjoy viewing this family’s story as much as I enjoyed creating it.
