Birthdays are a big deal at our house. Mostly because I have an almost-5-year old, and birthdays mean cake and 5-year-olds appreciate any excuse to have cake. But I hope that the enthusiasm for birthdays will carry on well past the 5th, 6th, 10th year and even 20th year for him.

When Michelle contacted me about an idea for her daughter’s 13th birthday, I felt that tingle of birthday enthusiasm, and I *really* want to do this shoot.  She asked if I would come and set up a backdrop at her daughter’s birthday party and do photos for her and all her friends, in various outfits and groupings. I loved the idea – what could be better than getting all glammed up with your closest friends and commemorating a really special occasion in a truly 13-year-old kind of way? Turns out, not much.

These girls were a true joy to work with. Full of giggles, jokes, goofy smiles and antics, they really embraced their photo shoot, even running outside in their fancy dresses and bare feet during a break in the rain. I know that these photos will be a treasure for both mom and daughter in years to come.
