I don’t enjoy being in front of the camera. I far prefer being behind it! So, I completely understand the trepidation and nervousness that can plague people who need to get in front of the lens. Especially when it’s for headshots or solo portraits! It can feel awkward and very exposed to be the only one in a photo – so when I work with clients on their new headshots, I really try to make them feel at ease. I want people to leave my studio or their session feeling like they just had a chat with a friend, who happened to also be taking their photo.
When Joanne came to my home studio, I loved hearing about her recent move to Tsawwassen, her family life, and her career. I enjoyed witnessing the sparkle in her eye when she talked about how her and her husband have been making friends through their mutual love of rowing. And it was heart-warming to hear her gush about her two sons and their accomplishments. These are the things I love to capture in a headshot session. It may not be obvious to the average viewer, but when I look at the photos Joanne chose, I see all those things and remember those conversations. It’s so much fun getting to know the person in the photograph!
