There aren’t too many things I love more than showing up for a session and having mom say, “We don’t really want or need a bunch of perfectly posed photos”….ok, so maybe those weren’t her exact words but it was somewhere along those lines! And that’s when my heart really smiles because I absolutely adore being able to photograph a family as they really are – natural interactions, real smiles, inside jokes and true joy.

As usual, I always start out with a few posed images (or as I like to call them, the “Christmas card shots” or the “photos for grandma”), and that always seems to get everyone loosened up. It also gives me time to gauge the family’s sense of humour and silliness! And as you’ll see from Michelle’s session, the natural and the silly start to come out later in the session.

What I loved about this crew is that they were not afraid to show affection, nor were they afraid to get in a few humorous jabs with one another. It made the session fun and lighthearted, and also gave us tons of lovely images to choose from.
