Four Generations, One Gorgeous Morning: Lisa’s Extended Family Session
On a perfect spring Sunday morning in June, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Lisa’s extended family – twelve lovely humans spanning four generations! We met at Deas Island Regional Park, where the light was perfect, the trails were quiet, and the air felt fresh with the promise of summer.
We kicked things off with a full group photo – something I always prioritize early in a session, especially when toddlers are involved! Once we had that “everyone together” shot, we took our time moving through all the meaningful combinations: each individual family unit, sibling pairs, grandparents with grandkids, the couples, and of course, the adorable little ones who kept everyone on their toes.
Lisa’s parents were a highlight for me. Her dad revealed a wonderfully subtle sense of humour that added so much warmth and fun to the morning. I loved teasing out those understated, charming expressions and quiet moments that truly showed his personality. His wife, the lovely matriarch of the family, was equally delightful. She positively glowed in the warmth of her family, and I’m so glad I snuck a few solo portraits of her.
What I remember most about this session was how much fun everyone was having together. There was plenty of razzing, good-natured teasing, and lots of laughter – classic big family energy. With no crowds to work around, we had the space to move at our own pace and make sure we captured every combination without feeling rushed.
From goofy grins to quick-witted banter, this was a relaxed and lively morning that felt more like a family hangout than a formal photo session which, in my books, is the best kind. I’m so glad I got to be a part of it and help document a rare moment when everyone was in one place at the same time. Thanks Lisa!
