Some people drift into their careers. Others are called to them.
Jenn is the second kind.
I first met Jenn at the South Delta Soroptimists’ Dream It, Be It Career Fair for girls at Tsawwassen Mills. I was volunteering as a mentor and so was she. When I saw her name on the mentor list, I recognized it immediately – her husband was the contractor on our recent (major) home renovation, and she was scheduled to come into my home studio for a headshot session in the next few weeks.
We sought each other out the moment we arrived, and within about thirty seconds she was giving me a hug like we’d been friends for years. Which was even weird because that is just who Jenn is!
She’s poised, articulate, warm, and genuinely funny. We clicked instantly, the way you do with people who share your vibe and your sense of humour. By the end of the fair, it felt like we’d known each other for a long time.
So when her studio headshot session arrived, I was excited.
A Career Built on Compassion
Jenn is a Market Director for a funeral services corporation. I know – at first glance, that might sound heavy. But spend five minutes with her and you understand completely why this work found her.
She came to this career through her own personal experiences, and somewhere along the way, she recognized that she had something real to offer people in their most vulnerable moments: steadiness, warmth, and genuine care. She didn’t stumble into funeral services. She chose it because it felt like a calling and I can tell that she has leaned into that calling with her whole self.
The Session
We shot in my home studio, and it felt less like a headshot session and more like a coffee date with a friend that happened to involve a camera. We talked, we laughed, and we got some truly great shots.
The portraits we made together capture exactly who she is: welcoming, open, and professional. The kind of person you would want to call when life gets hard. The kind of person who will actually show up for you. That’s Jenn and these are the fantastic shots she chose.
