This July I got to do a type of session I hadn’t done before: a mother-daughter headshot session, for Ruth and her daughter Sydney.
Ruth was ready to update her headshots for her online presence at work, and Sydney was heading off to law school in August and wanted fresh headshots to mark that new chapter. Two different reasons, one session.
Instead of doing one person’s full set and then moving to the other, we shot in tandem – one backdrop and pose with Ruth, then the same setup with Sydney, then on to the next. It kept the energy up and made for a really fun morning.
I first met this family through Delta Youth Theatre, where one of Ruth’s other daughters was a performer, and I photographed the whole family together last summer. Getting to work with them again for something so different was a treat.
What stood out most was the rapport between Ruth and Sydney – lots of good-natured teasing back and forth, and a mom who was clearly, obviously proud of her daughter. It made for a relaxed, easy session and headshots with a lot of warmth in them.
If you’re due for an update, I offer both studio and outdoor headshot sessions. September is a great time to book – it’s basically the next January for fresh starts!
