Bringing a new baby home is one of the most momentous and life-changing events in our lives. It almost feels like the world stands still for those first few weeks, as you adjust to this new and miraculous addition to your family. I remember when we first brought our son, Henry, home from the hospital – it felt incredibly real and unreal all at the same time. I’m so thankful that we hired a photographer to come to our home and capture the first few weeks of his life, and I’m grateful that I get the opportunity to witness other families bring their new babies home as an East Vancouver newborn photographer.
Over the years, my photography style has adapted and changed, and I’m now proud to call myself a lifestyle newborn photographer. When I come to your home for your newborn photo session, the images that I am able to capture are ones of connection and infatuation with little details like fingers and toes and ears or silly faces and loving smiles that are offered to these new little souls. The real and precious moments are caught when mommy or daddy try to coax baby into a soothing sleep, or of course, when baby protests and just wants to be fed or cuddled (and is decidedly “done” with having her picture taken!).
Each newborn lifestyle session is unique. I love being in the family’s own home, with their own possessions, in their own rooms. The memories that we will create are going to include images of things that are meaningful to you, with little details that may be forgotten one day when your newborn is a grumpy teenager – the nursery, the favourite blankie, the stuffed animals, the crib mobile, the little booties that auntie made, the bedtime stories that will be read for years to come. Every family member can be included in the shoot, and the whole experience will be incredibly flexible and natural.
