If we look closely enough, there is beauty in every single day.
No one knows that more intensely than Aimee. Diagnosed with stage IV cancer just 4 months after the birth of her daughter, Aimee’s life has been one day after another of chemotherapy, surgeries, fatigue, illness – all while raising her adorable little girl.
I was fortunate enough to meet Aimee a couple years ago when she graciously volunteered to be a part of my Motherhood: Unfiltered series with the Good Mother Project. I spent just one hour with her and her daughter, snapping photos of their everyday life together, but in that short amount of time, I was really affected by Aimee. I remember her saying that one of her biggest fears with her cancer diagnosis was that she wouldn’t be able to spend enough time with her daughter so that she would remember her. It struck such a chord with me.
When I started offering Our Family Story sessions, I knew I wanted to reach out to Aimee. I asked if I could spend some more time with her and her little family to create a keepsake for both her, her daughter and her new wife. Thankfully, they obliged and I spent a gorgeous fall afternoon with the three of them, just hanging out and capturing a snapshot of their daily lives together.
Aimee’s daughter was as spunky as I remembered (maybe even more so!), but what really struck me was the way Aimee looked at her – like she was her own little miracle. And even though I suspected Aimee was tired that afternoon, she never hesitated to play, laugh or snuggle with her daughter or wife. She always had enough energy for them.
It was such an honour working with this lovely family again, and I hope that this sweet little video of their everyday is a treasured keepsake for all three of them in the years to come. Enjoy!
