The Best Time of Day for Family Photos | Tsawwassen Photographer

You’ve seen them – those dreamy, warm, sun-kissed family photos on Facebook or Instagram that just have a glow to them that feels timeless and a little bit ethereal. And suddenly you find yourself wishing your family photos looked just like that.

So, what’s the secret? How can you ensure that your next family photo session has that same gorgeous glow? Timing is everything, friends!

And my favourite time to schedule family portrait sessions is during a special time of day we photographers affectionately call, the “golden hour.” It’s that perfect sliver of time that occurs about 1-2 hours before the sun sets (or after it rises), when the sun is low in the sky, the shadows are subtle and soft, and the light is warm and glowing.

Of course, Mother Nature often has her own ideas about how much sunshine glow is present on a given evening, but even with a cloudy sky, you can still create beautiful images.

So, next time you schedule your family photos, consider keeping the kiddos up a little bit past their bedtime. Chances are, the excitement of staying up late (or getting up early!) will bring out all the giggles, snuggles and perfectly glowing photos.
