It was the HOTTEST day of the summer, and we were shooting in the peak of the afternoon – but this extended family crew were total troopers! A shady park, some kids’ snacks, a few goofy grown-ups faces and voila – great family photos!
I’ve had the pleasure of photographing Kathryn and her little family a few times in the past few years – a maternity session and a newborn session – but this year, she teamed up with her brother’s family to buy a gift certificate for their parents for an extended family shoot. We met up at Burnaby’s Central Park in 30+ degree heat, wandering until we found a nice, shady spot away from the crowds.
I always start with the large group photo – preferably while the kids’ are still agreeable and smily – and then it’s time to capture the smaller groups like grandkids, siblings, individual families etc. An extended family session like this one can usually be captured in just 45 minutes to an hour – with great shots for everyone!
