Everyone gets a little jittery before a headshot session – including me! Even though I’ve done literally hundreds of solo portraits for a wide variety of people, I always find myself second-guessing myself before a session, adjusting and re-adjusting my camera settings and lights, tidying and re-tidying my studio space. But once we get rolling, I settle right in – and I hope that my clients do as well!

I like to tell people right away that I’m a super chatty photographer. I like to get to know the people I’m working with, ask them questions about their business or career, find out what they’re passionate about. It’s fun to see people light up when they talk about the things that make them tick!

Talking to Christina was like playing a game of pass-the-present – remember that game from childhood birthday parties? Everyone sat in a circle and when the music played, you passed around a wrapped gift. When the music stopped, the person holding the gift got to unwrap one layer of wrapping paper (there were multiple layers), and underneath each layer was usually a surprise of some sort, a small toy or some stickers. Christina was as delightful as playing that childhood game. Whether that was learning about her past working with fisheries, or her present relationship with her kids, or her future as an entrepreneur running a seniors’ assistance business, I was constantly surprised by her sense of humour and her passion for everything she does.
