Family Photos at Diefenbaker Park | Tsawwassen Photographer

Beautiful at any time of the year, Diefenbaker Park in Tsawwassen is one of my favourite locations in South Delta for a family portrait session. Rolling green hills, a duck pond, a weeping willow tree, secluded green spaces and beautiful fall foliage, Diefenbaker Park boasts a huge variety of backdrops, with something for everyone, young and old.

Lately, one of my favourite spots at Diefenbaker is the top northwest corner of the park. Set back from the distractions of the playground and duck pond, this tucked-away corner can actually be seen from all areas of the park – but it’s never busy. I love holding fall family sessions here because of the beautiful autumn foliage and my favourite find – the Photo Rock, which honestly makes everyone look good!

One of my favourite spots in the park is a beautiful weeping willow tree next to the duck pond. This is perhaps the most picturesque spot for photos in this park. Green grass and a curtain of green willow branches are set against the backdrop of the pond, which even boasts a small fountain (and lots of ducks!). Last spring, I held my Mother’s Day Pay-What-You-Can sessions here, and it was the perfect location!

In the springtime, if you’re lucky and you get your timing *exactly* right, you may also capture the beauty of pink cherry blossoms! This small grove of trees can be found on the centre of the northern edge of the park. It’s a beautiful little spot, but the flowers only bloom for so long and if your weather doesn’t cooperate, you’ll miss out! But I’ve had lucky a couple times!

Also hidden at the top of the northern hill is a secluded mini-park area in the northeast corner of Diefenbaker. A small green field, lovely little gardens and a fountain await you here, at the top of the gravel stairs from the lower area of the park. Again, this is a nice, private area with minimal distractions and other people, making it a great spot for family photos.

Finally, one of my newest favourite spots in the park is right near the parking lot. I stumbled upon this funky tree during a family photo session last year and ended up holding my fall family mini sessions there in 2022. With branches to climb on, lovely shade and some perfect greenery, this is another great spot for a family photo session!
