This was a session full of things I’ve never (or hardly ever) experienced before. Let’s start at the beginning when I stepped onto this beautiful houseboat along the river in Ladner.

First time photographing a session on a houseboat (probably first time being on a houseboat?), and it was magical! It was a grey and rainy day but the light flooding in from the windows made the setting moody and emotional. And every now and then a swan would float by, just checking in on the goings-on with this brand new little family. I felt like I was on set somewhere, shooting for a movie or a magazine.

Next – I have never, ever been to a newborn session with more love and joy floating around – and that’s saying a LOT. This adorable, brand new boy was enfolded in so much care and attention every moment I was there – from his sweet, exhausted mama, his caring and supportive daddy, his doting, new auntie visiting from across the country, his overjoyed grandparents. This little man was welcomed into a world of so much love. There were tears in everyone’s eyes (mine included!) on more than one occasion.

And finally, brand new baby B hardly fussed or cried at all, the entire 2 hours that I was there. He was perfectly content to snuggle with whomever had him in their arms, totally happy to be photographed from every angle and wide-eyed with curiosity when he was awake. It was only closer to the end of our time together when he started to get hungry that he began to fuss a little bit. But by then, I knew we had captured so much magic together that I was perfectly happy to take my leave and let this new family enjoy their time and snuggles together.
