It’s been a journey for these two dads – both literally and figuratively! They arrived in Canada from the UK literally hours before their beautiful son was born via gestational surrogate, with barely enough time to unpack and settle into their temporary apartment before bringing their gorgeous baby home.
But despite their son’s early and quick arrival, this lovely family had already settled in easily and comfortably into their new lives. When I arrived that morning, baby A was just rousing from his morning nap (early – these newborns always seem to know when something’s up!), so he was wide-eyed and ready to be his adorable self right from the get-go. To start, I just asked his dads to settle into their regular routine while I got a feel for their family dynamic and daily rhythm and captured any moments as they happened.
Once baby boy had been fed and changed and burped, it was snuggle time! Asking parents to just dote on, and stare at, and cuddle their new babies is one of my favourite things. While they play with teeny fingers and toes and talk casually about their day, I snap away, preserving real and beautiful moments for them to treasure. For these two, they really wanted to make that they were in the pictures with their son. Since baby A arrived early, none of their family had arrived from the UK yet and they had spent most of their time in their own little lovely newborn bubble – but that meant they had very few photos of them two of them with their baby. It was an honour and a pleasure for me to get to do that for them!
Welcome to the world, Baby A! You are so very loved.
