Amy’s Fall Session | Ladner Photographer

When my son was a baby, everyone always said “the days are long, but the years are short” – I hated it. The days seemed unbearably long sometimes. But these days, I get it. There are times in my kiddo’s life that I remember with such clarity – the nap room at his daycare, the crafts he made with his nanny, his obsession with Paw Patrol. But does he remember any of it? Nope! I showed him a picture of his nanny the other day, and he barely recognized her – this woman who spent hours and hours (years!) with him when he was a toddler.

As a family photographer, I am struck with this more and more these days. At this session, Amy’s eldest daughter was in daycare with my son about a decade ago. But I had to remind myself at their fall mini session, there’s NO way her daughter remembers me – some random woman who’s son used to go to the same daycare as her? No way! I’m sure she remembers daycare just as well as my son (which is not at all!), but for me, it is still really awe-inspiring to run into these kids that I remember from so far back. Her curly pigtails have turned into beautiful pre-teen locks. Her smile says confident girl and not shy toddler. Time marches onward.

I am so grateful to each and every family who chooses me to capture their family memories and even more grateful to those who keep me in mind after a decade of our kids growing up. It’s a joy to watch your families grow and change 🙂
