Monica’s Family Session at Diefenbaker Park

When you’re a family photographer, you often get to see the same wonderful faces year after year (which I LOVE!), and Monica’s family is one of those special crews. I absolutely adore photographing Monica, her husband, their spunky daughter, and their perpetually unimpressed pup, Oscar, each season. Their yearly sessions have become such a fun tradition, and it’s a gift to watch their family grow and evolve (even if Oscar’s expressions never change!).

Originally, Monica had booked one of my Backyard Sessions, but life threw us a little curveball. My house was mid-paint job and the yard was buried in ladders, tarps, and paint cans. Thankfully, Diefenbaker Park came to the rescue, offering the perfect blend of greenery, open space, and beautiful light for our session.

Each year, Monica’s daughter becomes a little more hilarious and a whole lot more full of personality. She’s silly, spunky, and entirely herself, and those are exactly the kinds of kiddos I love photographing most. There’s never a dull moment, and her playful energy brings so much life to the images.

And then there’s Oscar. His signature grumpy dog face shows up like clockwork in every photo, and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s truly part of the charm of this family’s sessions!

I’m so grateful to families like Monica’s who trust me to document their memories year after year. It means the world to me to be invited back into their lives to capture all the joy, chaos, and connection that make family life so special. I already can’t wait for next year’s session!
