Katie’s Sunset Grad Session at Centennial Beach
It’s not often that I get to photograph someone I haven’t seen since they were a toddler, but that is what made Katie’s sunset grad session so special! Years ago, I worked with her mom at the lovely Place des Arts in Coquitlam, a charming little community arts centre where creativity and connection thrive. Fast forward to today, and that tiny toddler is now a high school graduate!
When her mom reached out to book a session, she was super excited about the idea of capturing this milestone. Katie, on the other hand, seemed a little more reserved, maybe indulging her mom a little more than embracing the concept at first. But I knew we could turn that around 🙂
We met at Centennial Beach on a spectacular Sunday evening. The sky was putting on a serious show—layers of soft clouds, golden light, and a sunset that lit up the fields in all the right ways. Katie was such a good sport, patiently posing for all the classic grad shots and then letting her sparkplug personality peek through as the session went on.
And sure enough, magical golden hour light won her over! Between the stunning sky, the glowing fields, and a few good laughs, I think both Mother Nature and I managed to win Katie over.
The results? A breathtaking collection of portraits that reflect both Katie’s beauty and her vibrant spirit. I’m so glad her mom trusted me with these memories. It was so much fun to see them again, and such an unforgettable evening at Centennial.
