Sunset Magic with the Baril Family at Spanish Banks

After several attempts to sync up calendars and dodge rainy forecasts, I finally had the pleasure of photographing the Baril family on a picture-perfect June evening at Spanish Banks, and wow, was it ever worth the wait!

I first connected with the Barils through their youngest daughter, Izzy, who performs with Delta Youth Theatre (alongside my son!). From the get-go, I knew they’d be a blast to work with. What I didn’t expect was how stunning Spanish Banks would be. It was my first time doing a session there, and the location absolutely delivered. The beautiful sunset light, the sweeping beach views, and the North Shore skyline in the background created the most epic setting.

The Barils were full of energy, laughter, and love. Dad earned major props for keeping up with his three teenage daughters (and doing it all with a smile), while Mom brought such warmth and joy to the session. We even had some impromptu help from friendly beachgoers, who decided to offer posing suggestions from the sidelines – ha!

Sessions like this are a reminder of how rewarding it is to capture families just being themselves in beautiful spaces. I’m so happy with how the final images turned out, and I’m excited to shoot more Vancouver sessions this summer.
