Eight Years and Counting: Capturing the Jen’s Family at Sunset

While my son was performing at Theatre Under the Stars in Stanley Park, I had the chance to photograph another wonderful family who took me up on my offer for a Vancouver sunset session – Jen’s family. We met at Spanish Banks on a beautiful, though busy, evening, the kind that makes you pause and just soak in the golden light and family joy around every corner.

I don’t know how Jen & her husband do it – four kids, both parents working as doctors, and now TWO brand-new puppies in the mix! They even brought the puppies along for the session, and somehow it all worked beautifully. I’ve had the joy of photographing this family for over eight years, ever since their daughter (my second-oldest “mini-subject” at the time) was a baby. Each year, it’s a delight to see them again, because the family is always growing – sometimes with a new baby, and sometimes, like this time, with a pair of adorable pups.

What I love most about photographing Jen & her family is seeing the way they interact with each other. Their patience, care, and attention to each of their children is inspiring, and it shows in every shot. Every member of this family feels seen, valued, and loved, and the connection they share is palpable, even in the midst of a bustling beach evening.

Sessions like these remind me why I love what I do: capturing real, heartfelt moments that families can treasure for years. With Jen’s family, there’s always laughter, love, and now a little extra puppy mischief to keep things interesting. I can’t wait to see what next year brings!
