Golden Hour with Victoria’s Family
Some traditions are really special to me, and Victoria’s annual sunset session is definitely one of them. Every summer, when she and her family travel from Alberta to visit, we carve out time to capture their memories by the ocean. It’s become a highlight for me year after year – not only because I adore seeing them, but also because their very first session marked the beginning of something big: it was actually the first sunset session I ever photographed!
That first time, we celebrated four generations of women – Victoria, her daughter, her sister, her mom, and her grandmother. Since then, life has changed in the most beautiful way. Victoria’s family photo sessions have grown to include her husband and three children, and it’s been such a joy watching them change and grow up.
What I love about these sessions is the contrast. At home in Alberta, Victoria’s family enjoys the rhythm of farm life, but here in Tsawwassen, the salty air and golden light of the beach give them something completely different. At this session, the kids threw rocks into the waves, dug their toes into the sand, and played until the sun dipped low on the horizon. Each of them brings something unique – her oldest daughter with her quiet, thoughtful nature, her son with a perfect blend of curiosity and calm, and her youngest daughter, an unstoppable little firecracker who keeps us all laughing.
This year’s evening was nothing short of spectacular with the kind of sky that makes you pause and breathe it all in. I’m already looking forward to next summer, when we’ll add another chapter to this beautiful family tradition.
