A September Sunset with Michelle’s Family
The very first sunset session of mid-September kicked off with Michelle’s crew, one of my yearly faves. After a couple of reschedules thanks to unpredictable weather and lingering wildfire smoke, we finally landed the perfect evening, complete with golden light and a whole lot of love.
Michelle’s session is always extra special because her parents join us and this year, her nephew also made the trip over from the Sunshine Coast with them to join in. Over the years I’ve built such a lovely bond wth this family – one made even sweeter by the fact that Michelle’s son and my own share the exact same birthday in March 2013.
Our sessions have collected their own set of traditions that I look forward to every year. In fact, when I looked back at my records, I realized I’ve been photographing Michelle and her kids since 2016! Every year we capture the “feet photo” – everyone holding hands while the kids keep growing taller and taller, to the point where their faces no longer fit in the frame! Another must-have shot is of the grandparents holding Michelle’s two kids. At 11 and 13, they’re definitely not the tiny toddlers they once were, but their grandparents were still up for the challenge.
And of course, no session with Michelle’s family is complete without fun. This year brought twirls in the fields, some Charlie’s Angels posing, splashes in the ocean, and big, belly laughs. Watching these traditions carry on year after year has been such a gift, and I can’t wait to see them again in future years!
