I first photographed Nadia’s family back in 2020, and we got some truly magical shots that day – the kind of images that showed up (and still show up!) on my website and Instagram feed. So when she reached out to book again, I was definitely excited. Not only was I going to get to work with an awesome family again, I’d get to see how much her kids had grown up – one of my favourite parts of this job.

And grown up they have. Her three kids are basically unrecognizable from the humans I met in 2020 — two of them have graduated now, one already working full time, and the other packing up to head off to college in the US just one week after our session. If that’s not a reason to get the whole family together for photos, I don’t know what is!

We found one evening in late June that worked for absolutely everyone’s schedule – and thankfully it was a beautiful one. Golden light, warm air, all the makings of a perfect sunset session.

Except for one small problem: it was windy.

Now, a little wind is normal. A little wind I can work with. But this was next-level, three-women-with-long-hair-in-the-family windy. We tried my go-to spots first, the ones that almost never let me down – and the wind won every time.

So we did what any determined group does: we kept going. We trekked down the beach, cut across a few questionable fields, and kept our eyes open for anywhere the wind might ease up even slightly. Nadia’s family were absolute troopers through all of it – no complaints, just good humour and a shared mission to find our spot.

And we found it. Tucked away and sheltered just enough for hair to stay put and for us to finally breathe. By then the sun was dipping fast and we were racing the light, but somehow that made it even better. We came away with some genuinely gorgeous photos – the kind that make the whole windy, worrisome, trekking-across-fields adventure completely worth it.

Thank you to Nadia and her family for the perseverance, the patience, and for trusting me to chase down the right spot even when plan A (and B, and C) didn’t work out. Sessions like this are exactly why I love what I do.
