Although I live and am based in Tsawwassen, I have quite a few families that I work with regularly on the North Shore. Since I’m over on that side of the city once a week on Sundays, I’m often able to schedule a Sunday afternoon session with some of these lovely families, and it works out really well! Not only do I get to see some of my favourite clients, but I also get to explore new locations, like this one – Cates Park in North Vancouver.

When I met up with Stephanie and her family on a gorgeous September afternoon, the park was a-hoppin’! Dozens (if not hundreds!) of families were gathered for picnics or hang-outs on the grassy fields and beaches of this beautiful park. And although there were fall leaves scattered all over the ground, it was still warm enough to be summery, which made for the perfect setting for this family session. We were able to get the best of both worlds – cozy fall photos in the leaves, and lovely summery images on the beach.

What I love about photographing Stephanie and her family is how they are always so laidback and willing to just roll with whatever the kids are keen to do – whether that’s tossing autumn leaves in the air, or climbing over rocks on the beach, or searching for teeny critters and beach glass in the sand. They let the kids lead the session, and I always love the images we end up with!
