A Headshot Session with Mary Ella: Reconnecting and Creating

Every once in a while, a session comes along that feels less like work and more like catching up with an old friend, and that’s exactly what it was like photographing Mary Ella.

I first met Mary Ella many years ago when she was part of a production of The Vagina Monologues that I produced. It was such a powerful and memorable experience, and I was thrilled when she booked one of my $100 Headshot Sessions recently for updated acting headshots. Mary Ella is still pursuing her passion for acting, and it was such a treat to hear about the projects and performances that have shaped her career over the years.

She brought along her lovely friend Oksana, who not only provided fantastic moral support but also worked her magic as Mary Ella’s hair stylist and make-up artist. The two of them met through a women’s cold plunge group on the North Shore (how cool is that?), and Oksana made the trek across town to be part of the shoot. I loved the energy the two of them brought to the session—supportive, calm, and full of fun stories.

The whole experience was incredibly relaxed and fun. We played with different looks and expressions, capturing a variety of shots that truly showcase Mary Ella’s range and personality. There’s something really special about reconnecting with someone after years and having it feel like no time has passed.
