A Joyful Summer Celebration at Kirkland House
Julie and Aaron’s wedding was everything I love about photographing smaller, more intimate celebrations. Their beautiful August day unfolded in the gardens of historic Kirkland House in Ladner, with the ceremony beginning at 11am under a brilliant blue sky. It was one of those perfect hot summer mornings, full of summer light, laughter, and genuine joy.
The couple chose to keep things simple and easygoing, which felt perfectly true to who they are. With about 60 guests in attendance, it was a gathering that felt personal and heartfelt, surrounded by family and friends who had come from near and far to celebrate with them.
Before the ceremony began, a family member played violin in the gardens, creating the loveliest atmosphere as guests arrived. Julie’s nieces walked down the aisle as flower girls, adding the perfect touch of sweetness. And one of the most memorable moments? Their adorable dog proudly served as part of the wedding, delighting everyone. It was such a lovely reminder that weddings don’t need to be full of fanfare – they can be full of heart instead.
After the vows, guests enjoyed a relaxed lunch served by food trucks, which added such a fun and casual vibe to the afternoon. While we captured family portraits and bride and groom photos among the gardens’ flowers and greenery, guests mingled nearby, eating, playing lawn games and enjoying the sunshine. The atmosphere was lighthearted, celebratory, and full of joy.
I couldn’t have imagined a day that better reflects the kind of wedding I adore documenting – intimate, full of connection, and focused on what truly matters. Julie and Aaron’s celebration was such a beautiful day, and I feel so lucky to have been part of it.
