Wind, Waves & Family at Dundarave Beach
I’ve known Heather for a very long time — close to 20 years now! We first met when we sang together in a choir, and since then, she’s become one of my dearest friends and one of the women I admire most. These days, we share the stage as part of Sweet Scarlet, our six-woman a cappella ensemble, and I’m constantly amazed by how she balances it all: a demanding boss-lady career, motherhood to two teenagers, and the commitment to keep herself grounded, healthy, and full of joy (while also memorizing all our music!).
Since I find myself on the North Shore quite frequently for Sweet Scarlet rehearsals, we decided to squeeze in a photo session at Dundarave Beach in West Vancouver. It turned out to be one of those blustery, windswept days that can make photo sessions complicated but we persevered — hair flying, clothes fluttering, and the ocean doing its thing in the background.
Her eldest — like many teenage boys — wasn’t exactly thrilled about a photo shoot, but he showed up with a great attitude because he knew how much it meant to his mom. Her daughter, on the other hand, was all in and even wanted to keep going when we had finished.
We captured every combination: the three of them together, sibling shots, solo portraits, and those special one-on-one moments between Heather and each of her kids. My favourites, though, are the ones with the Dundarave Pier stretching out behind them — a perfect mix of West Coast beauty, family connection, and a little shelter from that magical wind.
I always love photographing Heather and her family and look forward to it any chance I get!
