This fall’s collection of headshots for Delta Youth Theatre’s production of The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition felt extra awesome – not only because of the vibrant, enthusiastic cast, but because it was the very first show where I got to use my brand-new studio setup for DYT’s headshots. I worked with my trusty neutral white backdrop, which always delivers clean, timeless images, but I also played with the gorgeous natural light that pours through the glass French doors. Many of the cast members ended up choosing those images as their favourites, and I can’t blame them – they are truly magical!
As always, I offered mega-discounted headshot sessions to the young performers, something I love doing for each DYT show. This production of SpongeBob brought in many new-to-DYT cast members, which meant I had the pleasure of photographing lots of new faces. At the same time, I was reunited with several familiar ones. Kids grow and change so quickly, and updated headshots are so important, both for casting and for capturing who they are right now.
One of my favourite parts of this process is working with the actors one-on-one. They’re all so interesting, creative, and talented, and I love getting a glimpse of their personalities during the session. It makes it even more exciting to see them shine on stage once the show opens.
And that moment is almost here! The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition runs November 28th to December 7th, with four talented casts and three performances each. This is a high-energy, heart-filled show that’s perfect for all ages – you won’t want to miss it.
