When you book a family session with me, I want you to know right off the bat, it’s going to be relaxed, easygoing, and probably a little silly. Think less “perfectly posed portrait in exactly matching outfits,” and more “laughing until your sides hurt while chasing your toddler through a field.” My goal? To capture your family’s real energy, connection, and love because that’s what makes your story beautiful.

I’m not a “say cheese!” kind of photographer. In fact, you’ll never hear me ask you to look at the camera or force a smile. Instead, I use a whole bunch of games, prompts, and playful ideas to help everyone loosen up and just be. We might dance, race, snuggle up, or tell a few ridiculous jokes. I want your session to feel less like a photo shoot and more like spending a fun afternoon together, with me tagging along as your oddly enthusiastic new friend with a camera.

I’m a total chatterbox, especially with kids. (They always have the best stories.) I’ll ask them about their favourite pizza, what made them laugh that week, or who has the stinkiest feet in the family. Once they realize this is more about play than posing, the magic happens. They forget about the camera, and that’s when I get those genuine, joy-filled shots that show who they really are.

And don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about the grown-ups. I know dads often come into sessions feeling a little unsure or “just along for the ride.” I totally get it. That’s why I build in fun, easy tasks and prompts – things that make you do something together instead of just standing and smiling. The result feels natural, not staged. Everyone looks comfortable because they are comfortable.

Before the big day, I’ll send over wardrobe guidelines to take the guesswork out of what to wear. If you’re feeling unsure, I’m always here to help you choose outfits that feel like “you” while photographically complementing each other. Seriously, text me photos! I love helping families feel confident about their look.

At the heart of it all, I’m not chasing perfection. I’m chasing authenticity. I truly believe there’s art in every moment: the way your child’s hand fits in yours, the shared glance between you and your partner, the chaos, the giggles, and yes, even the outtakes. Sure, we’ll grab that classic “everyone smiling for grandma” shot, but what I’m really after is artwork that tells your story – real, vibrant, and full of heart.
