I’ve had so many conversations lately with moms who won’t step in front of the camera. They pull back when the phone comes out. They volunteer to be the one behind the lens so they don’t have to be in it. And when I ask why, the answer is almost always the same: I don’t like the way I look right now. I need to lose a few pounds first. Maybe after I feel better about myself.
I hear you. I really do. But I want to say something kind, and I want you to really hear it:
Your kids don’t see what you see.
When your daughter looks at a photo of you, she doesn’t see the things you criticize in the mirror. She sees her mom. The person who showed up for every school play, every bad dream, every scraped knee. She sees safety. She sees home. She sees the person she loves most in the world.
The photos you’re hiding from? Those are the ones she’ll treasure for the rest of her life.

We are living in the most documented era in human history, and yet moms – the heart of the family – are disappearing from the family album. Decades from now, your children will scroll through old photos and want to see you there. Not a thinner version of you, not a more polished version of you – just you, right now, in this season of life, holding their hand and laughing in the late afternoon light.
There’s also this: you won’t always feel this way. Most of us look back at photos from years past and think, I looked fine – why didn’t I believe that then? Don’t let future-you grieve the photos that present-you refused to take.
Beyond legacy, there’s something else worth naming. When your kids see you show up confidently – even imperfectly – in photos, you’re showing them that bodies don’t need to be “ready” to be worthy of celebration. That’s a message that lands deeper than any conversation ever could.
So here’s my gentle nudge: let’s get you in the frame.
A Sunset Session is one of my favourite ways to do exactly that – relaxed, unhurried, bathed in that gorgeous golden hour light that is honestly magic for everyone. It’s less of a photoshoot and more of a slow evening walk with your people, and the images we capture together will be ones you’ll want to frame, print, and keep forever.
You deserve to be remembered. Book your Sunset Session and let’s make it happen.
