Welcoming baby S felt a little like coming full circle with this wonderful family. I’ve been lucky to photograph Britt and Miguel for year- their first maternity session for their daughter M, then newborn photos when their daughter arrived, their wedding last spring and most recently, their second maternity session. Stepping into their home for S’s in-home newborn session felt warm and familiar, like picking up a conversation right where we left off.
Yes, everyone was a bit tired (newborn life!), but the house still hummed with love and easy laughter. M could hardly wait to give me the tour including her bedroom, her favourite stuffies, and her very important buddy, Birdie the family dog. Baby S, meanwhile, was the definition of chill: he snoozed through outfit & diaper changes, room swaps, and sister’s enthusiastic chitter-chattering, barely a fuss the whole time.
Some of my favourite frames happened on the big bed, where Britt and M melted into snuggles. Between giggles, M kept whispering to her mom, “I love you,” and “You make me happy,” while Miguel gently rocked S in the background. Those small, honest moments – the ones you don’t stage – are the ones I love the most.
Watching Britt and Miguel’ parent’s family grow has been such a privilege. If M is any indication, S is in the best hands: a home where encouragement is everyday language and affection is easy to find. Congratulations, you four (five, counting Birdie!). Thank you for inviting me back to document this next beautiful chapter. I can’t wait to see S grow, and to keep telling your family’s story.
